DAY 3 - 16TH FEBRUARY – NAIROBI
After breakfast we embark on a half day excursion to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Center. Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage looks after and supports orphaned baby elephants and rhinos who have lost their mothers to poaching, death, or injuries. Besides feeding, washing and walking the babies, the dedicated staff of keepers provide emotional support to the orphans as they raise them to be released back into the wild. Our visit to the park allows us to see the young elephants interacting with their keepers – playing, taking mud baths and being fed. We then learn about the several types of giraffes and take the opportunity to get up close to them. The rest of the day is at leisure.

The valley’s sheer scale and natural beauty provide a striking contrast to the surrounding terrain. Continuing the journey, we reach Lake Nakuru National Park, where the lake’s sparkling waters and the vibrant pink flamingos create a captivating scene. The traditional Masai influence is evident in the colorful beadwork and attire of the residents, blending seamlessly with modern developments. There is no set itinerary each day, as that will be dictated by the wildlife. We may set out after breakfast each day with a packed lunch on board, or we may head out before breakfast for a morning game drive and then again after lunch until after dark. The diverse habitats, from open grasslands to scattered woodlands, provide a rich variety of encounters, including herds of wildebeest, elegant giraffes, and bustling zebra groups. We hope for potential sightings of elusive leopards and the chance to witness the dramatic interactions of predator and prey. As the sun sets, the landscape transforms, casting a warm glow over the scene and offering stunning opportunities to observe the Masai Mara’s beauty. DAY 9 - 22ND FEBRUARY – SERENGETI
After breakfast we transfer to the airstrip for our flight to Seronera, in the heart of the world-famous Serengeti National Park. With its informative visitor center, the Seronera area of Central Serengeti is the national park’s most popular area. And it is extremely popular with the local wildlife too. The Seronera river enjoys year-round waterflow, so there is always something of interest to observe. Our afternoon safari here may reveal lions in sizeable prides, hippos, or herds of elephants - whose populations have risen in recent times.

DAY 10 - 23RD FEBRUARY – SERENGETI
Today, we set off from our accommodation in the Central Serengeti. Wildlife is abundant: sometimes you may think it has come to find you, rather than the other way round. Today’s highlight is unknown, as the animals do not publish their schedule. What we see also depends on the season, but this area is where bushland meets grassland, a favourite spot for big cats looking for prey. Cheetah, leopard, and lions are all possibilities today.

DAY 11 - 24TH FEBRUARY – SERENGETI
Today is another full day of discovery, a chance to enjoy the varied landscapes of the Central Serengeti. The Central Serengeti region has a rich population of resident animals who live here year-round, offering some amazing opportunities to see these majestic animals in their natural environment. DAY 12 - 25TH FEBRUARY – SERENGETI
We set off early for our drive to Ndutu for today’s adventures. Ndutu can be considered in many respects as a continuation of the endless plains of the southern Serengeti, but it lies in part within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. At this time of the year, Ndutu is one of the best places to see migrating herds who seek out the short, nutritious grass and choose this area to give birth. The richness of the vegetation gives them the best chance of survival, but with predators everywhere, survival is not guaranteed. Later, we drive back to Central Serengeti for the evening.

DAY 13 - 26TH FEBRUARY – NGORONGORO CRATER
We make another visit to the migrating herds in Ndutu on this morning’s game drive. After lunch, we take the long, straight road which passes Simba Kopjes (famous from ‘The Lion King’) to reach Naabi Hill Gate, close to the divide between the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater. Here we can gather information at the gate’s visitor center, clamber up the hill for superb views back over the plains, or look out for a colourful agama lizard among the rocks. This afternoon we will get our first sight of the spectacular and incomparable Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and the heart of the Conservation Area of the same name. After an eventful day of new sights, it is time to relax for the evening.

DAY 14 - 27TH FEBRUARY – NGORONGORO CRATER
Breakfast is served early today, to facilitate our departure from camp as we drive to the rim and then descend into the vast crater itself. The crater has a population of around 120 lions, with well-defined territories; 15,000 wildebeest, 9,000 zebra, 400 hyenas, and around 50 black rhinos. Buffalo, Thomson’s gazelle, and eland are also present in numbers. Hippos can be found in pools and swampland and highland birdlife is colourful and plentiful around the waters. Flamingos can often be seen in Lake Magadi, which occupies part of the crater floor. Today’s picnic stop is certainly a memorable one, as we enjoy our packed lunch inside the majestic crater, surrounded by stunning wildlife. After a full day on safari, we return to the lodge in the late afternoon to reflect on a truly memorable day in Africa.

Abolished in 1873 by decree of the Sultan of Zanzibar, the cathedral’s high altar stands on the exact site of the whipping post that was in the market.
